juiienne tips and bits

 back to julienne's

Your julienne has arrived and you are ready to get stuck in and produce some great    fresh healthy food!

As with all tools, gadgets and utensils connected with food always clean before using.
Normal wash and rinse is fine but do not dry as this will nake a terrible mess of your cloth!
Allow to air dry as it is more hygenic and If you have a dishwasher just whack it in.

You will find your julienne cutter very easy to use, just like peeling and practice will make

perfect.Courgette/Zuchinni/CucumberPlace

the veg flat on your chopping board.
Hold one end with your fingers, put the julienne on top close to your fingers and give a little dig so the blade cuts into the veg.Now with an even pressure draw the cutter along the full length of the veg. If needed cut to size afterwards. While still flat on the board turn the veg 45 degrees so an edge is pointing upwards,
do a few swipes then turn again with an edge facing upwards and so on until the whole veg has been done.
Go for the path of least resistance, edges/corners instead of large flat areas, as you will find it quicker and easier
and this becomes more important when shreding hard fruit and veg.

Carrot

After peeling place flat on your chopping board, push a fork through the thicker end
and do the same as above using the fork to turn the veg.
There will be a little waste however most of the veg can be done and followed up with a knife
or use for stock/stew, compost. I pop in my mouth for an instant healthy snack.

Please DON'T buy ready packs of fruit and veg, buy fresh.
Many food producers bleach with a solution of chlorine 32 times stronger than is used in swimming pools.
There is not even a dickie bird of nutritional value after only one week from production!
It is not quantity but quality that really counts.

Use a fork to help you grip hard to hold fruit and veg like ginger, garlic, potatoes and radishes
Remember to use the path of least resistance to make easier.

Wash straight after use, a brush can be used to unclog any food left behind in the blade.
Allow to air dry.ENJOY YOUR JULIENNE!
